My dearest child – Young mother contemplating her sleeping child in candlelight by Albert Anker

Young mother contemplating her sleeping child in candlelight by Albert Anker

My dearest child, you, who are tenderly asleep, free of troubles, filled with confidence, here is what you should know.

My dearest child, you are now serenely wrapped in your soft sheets but soon you will be iced by people’s stares. Unknowingly, you will trust them, they will break your heart, and naively you will forgive them.

My dearest child, you are at peace, you feel the warmth of this candlelight protecting you from the horrors of your own mind, which will trick you not to believe in  yourself.

My dearest child, you will wander the streets that lead  you home, asking endlessly for help without feeling  an  ounce of hope. You will look for answers in other people’s arms, find refuge in their fabricated lives, and in the end, you will realise that what you were seeking all along, lay  within.

My dearest child, chasing  your shadows, running around the world, screaming inside for a sign is a useless path that I hope you will never take.

My dearest child, I wish I could save you some time, some anger and some tears by teaching you the shortcut to a happier destiny. But as of right now, my eyes laying on you my dearest child, I can only admire your angelic face and pour  the love which overflows from my maternal heart onto you.
