One two three – The Ball by Victor Gabriel Gilbert

The Ball by Victor Gabriel Gilbert (Via Fine Art America)

One two three, one two three. Like a satin ribbon flowing in the air, the waltz is soft and captivating. In the palace salon, crinoline and muslin fabrics spin around. The dresses fly in the air, magnified by their owners who lead the the swirls and twirls by their graceful hands.

One two three, one two three. The joyous air is orchestrated by the musicians present at the back of the room. The violins play in unison, exaggerating the staccato and the appassionato of the score.

One two three, one two three. On the floor, feet spin around swiftly, arms circle with elegance and heads are held high and proud. Some couples are more experienced than others but all men and women are putting all their best efforts into the moment.

One two three, one two three. Seated on the side, ladies flutter their feather fans, whispering in the ears of their neighbours, glancing at potential courtiers and smiling timidly. Their laughter meld into the chords, adding to the melody heart-warming notes and sparks of glee.
